Libra Serif Modern expands the opportunities and avoids the limitations of WGL (Windows Glyph List) as a pan-European character set through particular use of Open Type .locl features and Open Type Style Sets features for Russian, Serbian and Macedonian languages. It makes Libra Serif Modern multilingual font in the field of Cyrillic languages.

Roundo

Roundo is an Open Source font family that currently offers support for the Gurmukhi and Latin scripts. It is a geometric sans serif typeface, optimized for headlines and other on-screen display-sized text. Roundo’s Latin-script character set is made up of top-heavy letters; this reverse contrast is particularly visible in Roundo’s lowercase letters. The typeface’s lowercase also sports a nice hybridization of geometric sans and humanistic sans design features. Roundo’s capital letters, on the other hand, are more geometric. The theme of geometrization is taken to an extreme in the Gurmukhi character set; the Gurmukhi base characters are very geometric in their design, and appear to be constructed – or even to have been “engineered” on a drafting table.

The x-height of Roundo’s Latin lowercase is tall: this means that the design combines shorter capital letters with ascenders and descenders not long enough to distract the reader. The lowercase “a” takes a double-storey form, while the “g” is single-storey. Roundo’s ascenders are topped off with diagonal shears, adding dynamism to any text set with the typeface. All dots in the typeface – be they for punctuation or other marks – are round. The headline of Roundo’s Gurmukhi base characters falls just between Latin x-height and the tops of the Latin capital letters. The typeface’s Gurmukhi characters are a bit narrower in feeling that the Latin, offering users a high degree of space-savings.

Five font styles make up the initial Roundo release: Light, Regular, Medium, SemiBold, and Bold. Each font contains 544 glyphs. The Gurmukhi character set was designed by Namrata Goyal. The Latin is from Shiva Nallaperumal. Roundo was first published by the Indian Type Foundry in 2016.

Karma

Karma is an open source multi-script typeface supporting both the Devanagari and the Latin script. The family was developed for use in body text on screen, and five fonts are available. The characters for both scripts feature a construction style that tends toward the monolinear. The Latin script component has serif letters. Both these, and the stroke terminals in the Devanagari letterforms are generally rounded in Karma’s design.

Karma’s characters are economic in width, and the Latin sports a tall x-height. Although the knotted terminals in the Devanagari letterforms are closed, the general feeling of the Devanagari character set is open and airy. See the design of the ख (kha), छ (cha) and ध (dha), for example.

Joana Correia designed Karma for the Indian Type Foundry, who first published the fonts in 2014.

Dehuti

Newest version, 8/23/2016.

Dehuti /de.ˈhuː.tiː/, formerly Tehuti, is a modern font predominantly based off Dwiggins’ Electra. The change from T to D in the name reflects the actual pronunciation of Tehuti, as the T is actually Ṭ (D) in Kheimian. Also, given that this version has had significant alterations to its design, making it more like Electra, as well as quite a few additions and program fixes, it is essentially a new font; thus, the name change. Overall, Dehuti became what I had tried to achieve with Tehuti - a harmonized font in all aspects. One such aspect is my approach to the design of the Greek and Cyrillic glyphs, which have a more Latin-like feel. Others are the additional characters, such as the hash tag, the math symbols, the arrows, et cetera, all of which are balanced with the lowercase and numbers. Also, the italicized a’s mirror the regular a’s, so as to be easily distinguished by the various languages that use them. All extra features, including alternate characters, et cetera, are available via open type tables. For those programs without access to open type, all characters are in the Private Use Area at the end of the font. Since Dehuti is a Unicode font, I will update it on occasion, so check back for newer versions.

Notes: 1) The modifier letters are set at the optimal height for text; they are not superiors, but numerators, meaning that if you need to add additional letters to text use the numerator table, i.e., for abbreviations as in 5th, 1ère, and so on. The standard superiors are set for math. 2) Dehuti has a large m-height to accommodate multiple combining diacritics, i.e., it’s a smaller point size — 16 point is approximately equal to 10 point in most fonts. 3) A fontlog is included that lists the code points for additional characters.
